The word stoked is centuries old and refers to stoking a fire with wood, a fire that is "stoked" burns bigger and brighter. Stoked has been used as a slang word to describe a state of excitement and fun in surfing culture as far back as 1902. Today the word is used in many ways throughout the world to convey a good feeling, but it is still primarily used in its root sport cultures to describe a feeling of joy about a specific thing or about the moment in general, for example, "I'm stoked about this new board" or "I'm so stoked right now".

STOKED is the social media network for extreme sports and we want it to be the best online community for extreme sports, period. Our unique trending algorithms automatically rank the content submitted by users so the content you see is decided upon by the community, not by an individual. By enabling us to submit, find and vote for the best new videos and photos STOKED allows us to see the best extreme sport content first, help upcoming athletes and filmmakers, connect with friends and industry pros, and share and promote our own media.

We are a community for those who are stoked on life and the sports we love, come and join us anytime: http://stoked.com/user/register/

Over the years a huge number of people have helped to support and grow STOKED in so many ways and it's only thanks to the those people that it is what it is today. The community has been able to help a huge number of athletes, filmmakers, and photographers reach a much wider audience, improve their skills, and connect with other people in the industry.
